Homemade Applesauce

Recipe By : The Jewish Homemaker

Serving Size : 8 Preparation Time :0:00

Categories : Chanukah\Hanukkah Fruit

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

-------- ------------ --------------------------------

8 medium apples, peeled, cored -- cut into chunks

1 Bartlett pear

1/4 cup water

OR apple juice

3 tablespoons sugar -- to taste

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon lemon juice -- if desired

*This recipe calls for 3-4 tablespoons of sugar, to taste. Adjust to suit your

needs or taste.

In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. (If you have a food mill, apples

may be cooked without peeling. Wash apples very well before cooking. The

applesauce will be rosy pink.) Bring to a boil; reduce heat to simmer, and cook

partially covered for 20 to 25 minutes, until tender. Break up applesauce with

a spoon or serve it chunky.

Makes 8 servings. Freezes well.

To microwave, cook covered on High power for 8 minutes, or until tender,

stirring once or twice during cooking.
