Southwestern Gravy

1/4 cup flour

1/4 cup vegetable oil

2 onions -- chopped

2 cups hot water

1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes -- undrained

1 8 oz can diced tomatoes and green chiles -- undrained

1 6 oz can tomato paste

1 teaspoon Pick-a-Peppa Sauce

3 tablespoons vegetable broth powder or cubes

1/4 teaspoon sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

 

Whisk together the flour and vegetable oil in a skillet over low heat. Stir

almost constantly until the mixture is caramel-colored, about 10 minutes (it

should be darker than golden brown). Add the onion and continue stirring about

5 more minutes. Stir in the hot water and bring to a boil. Add the remaining

ingredients, reduce the heat, and simmer for 5 minutes.
