Brownies In A Jar

I saw this in the December issue of Ladies Home Journal magazine. It looks like

it would make a lovely holiday gift. You put the dry ingredients in a jar, and

decorate as desired. The recipient bakes the actual brownies. If anyone tries

this, (or just tries making the brownies from the recipe,) let me know how it

turns out.

Brownies In A Jar

Serving Size : 12 Preparation Time :0:00

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1 cup flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

3/4 tablespoon granulated sugar

6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1/4 cup white chocolate chips

1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup melted butter -- when baking only

3 eggs -- when baking only

1/2 teaspoon vanilla -- when baking only

 

Mix flour and salt together and spoon mixture through a funnel into a 1-quart (4

cup) glass jar with a lid.

 

Add the following, in order, tapping the jar to settle ingredients: the

unsweetened cocoa, the granulated sugar, the brown sugar, the additional

granulated sugar, and the additional cocoa.

 

Top with the chopped walnuts, the white chocolate chips, and the semisweet

chocolate chips.

 

Close lid, decorate jar as desired, and attach a card with baking directions to

the jar.

 

To bake: Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 inch square pan. Empty jar of

brownie mix into a bowl and whisk to mix dry ingredients.

 

Stir in 1/2 cup melted butter, 3 eggs, beaten, and 1/2 tsp. vanilla. Spread

into pan.

 

Bake until toothpick inserted in center has a few crumbs, about 35 minutes.

Cool.

Hi!

 

Miriam posted these last year- can you beleive I still have this?? Anyway- I

was curious if anyone tried it or hass any others like it.. Got engaged and

saving for a house, so it's looking like home-made christmas gifts all

around..

 

Anyone ever try making these or get any of these tupes of things? Any advice

would be appreicated. :)

 

Thanks all! ( can you believe it's time to start thinking about

Christmas??!!) sheesh!

congrats, Jamie. wishing you happiness...

 

If you're looking for ideas.... Flavored nuts and herb blends make nice,

personal gifts as well. here's a nut recipe. i'd use oil not butter for logner

storage.

Garlic and Hot Pepper Almonds

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon butter or margarine

2 teaspoons minced garlic

1/4 teaspoon dried hot pepper flakes

2 cups whole almonds

salt -- to taste

 

Heat oil and butter in large frying pan until foamy. Add garlic and pepper

flakes and heat for 5 seconds. Add almonds, stirring constantly until completely

coated and lightly toasted, about 5 minutes. Season with salt to taste. Cool.
