Rich Mushroom Sauce for Lentil Roulade

The Rich Mushroom Sauce was posted earlier this week with other recipes, but

here it is again in case you missed it. The Rich Mushroom Sauce goes with the

Lentil Roulade. HOWEVER, I thought this sauce was " lacking " so I came up with

my own recipe based on it -- which is also included. This one ended up being

published in Southern Living, but they changed the recipe to include b**f broth,

which really annoyed me. LOL! The G. Washington stuff is a little hard to find

-- I buy mine at a local SDA store, but I've also seen it at *one* (not all)

Kroger store.

Rich Mushroom Sauce

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium onion -- chopped

2 cloves garlic -- minced

1 1/2 cups cremini mushrooms -- chopped

2 1/4 cups water

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 teaspoon vegetable bouillon powder

2 teaspoons cornstarch dissolved in 1/4 cup water

DISSOLVED IN:

1/4 cup water

salt and freshly ground black pepper -- to taste

 

In medium saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook,

stirring often, until onion is soft, about 5 minutes. Add mushrooms and cook,

stirring often, until they begin to release their juices. Add water, soy sauce,

bouillon powder and dissolved cornstarch; stir well. Simmer until thickened

slightly, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Mushroom Gravy

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium onion -- chopped

12 ounces chopped mushrooms

2 1/4 cups water

1 tablespoon soy sauce

3 packets G. Washington's Rich Brown Seasoning & Broth

3 teaspoons cornstarch dissolved in 1/4 c. water

salt & freshly ground pepper to taste

 

In a medium saucepan, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and

cook, stirring often, until onion is soft, about 5 minutes. Add mushrooms and

cook, stirring often, until mushrooms begin to release their juices. Add water,

soy sauce, G. Washington Rich Brown Seasoning & Broth, and cornstarch dissolved

in water. Stir well and simmer until thickened slightly, about 10-15 minutes.

Season with salt & freshly ground pepper.
