Pangea marshmallows

Liz,

I happen to have a bag of Pangea marshmallows right here ... and I'm

popping one into my mouth right now. Hmmm ... kind of sugary, like

little crunchy sugar crystals. But, to me, still tasty. The shape

of each marshmallow can be a little irregular. And the color a

little on the brownish side. Mostly I put them in hot cocoa. My 7

year old likes them, but not my 4 year old.

The bag says " Gelatin-free * No animal ingredients " . So, what's in

them? Ingredients: Sugar (non-bone-char processed), corn syrup, agar-

agar, carrageenan, soyy protein, vanilla.

I'm fortunate to live not too far from the store, so I don't have to

mail-order. I met a couple of the people that work there and I was

very impressed with how meticulous they are about screening all the

products they sell to make sure they are pure vegan.

figured out how they're made differently than the ones that were

taken off the market because the Emes gelatin wasn't as vegan as they

said.

Thanks for the info, Alan. Since I also stock Pangea marshmallows in our home,

you'd think I'd know how to get off my duff and read the label....duh!!

I'm glad they don't use Emes....and I'm looking forward to when Vegan Essentials

marshmallows are back on the market with the " new formulation " , because our main

use for marshmallows is in s'mores, and as we all know, Pangea's taste great on

their own and work fine in hot cocoa, but don't work so well when grilled. It's

an odd thought to consider carrying *two* brands of marshmallows in one home,

but it helps my children show others that they're not being deprived of a " real "

childhood. In fact, we really don't use things like marshmallows or vegan gummy

bears all that much -- a few times a year -- but my kids feel happier knowing

that they have the option available.
