This may be a dumb question, but are you sure you got " nutritional

yeast " and not " brewer's yeast " ? Because a lot of people say they're

interchangable, but as I found out early in my experiments with

supplementation, they're NOT. Brewer's yeast is gagalicious.

Can't help with brand - I buy the bulk stuff from the HFS. But if it

helps, it looks like thin flakes (like fish food), not granules.

Then again, it could be one of those taste things - you know, like in

biology class where they hand out the paper strips and everyone puts

them on their tongue and one person starts gagging and spitting and

everyone else wonders what's wrong with them? My husband was that one

person, and I think part of why he's so anti-food is that there are a

lot of things he can taste that most people can't.

re: Veg restaurants in DC - DC is actually relatively veg-friendly,

even though it may not look like it at first. You *can* find good

stuff to eat almost anywhere, even steakhouses. As far as actual

vegetarian restaurants - I know of several in the surrounding suburbs

- Sunflower in Vienna (VA) is fantastic, and the Vegetable Garden in

Rockville (MD) has an amazing selection - both are mostly vegan. In

actual DC - Meskerem (http://www.meskeremonline.com/) is a way cool

Ethoipian place - make sure they understand you want the *vegetarian*

messob (combination). Soul Vegetarian

(http://www.kingdomofyah.com/SV.htm) is also very cool and yum, but

not in the best neighborhood (and not really near Metro, no matter

what they claim). Don't go on Sunday - the brunch is good, but the

weekday stuff is better.

Enjoy your trip - hope you find lots of yummy places to check out!

(And I hope other people post their recommendations to the list,

because I'm always looking out for vegetarian restaurants to

patronize.)
