Guest guest
Hi Lisa-- Have you checked out the children¹s cookbooks by Mollie Katzen? The recipes are vegetarian (lacto-ovo) not vegan, but they are so fun for kids and adults to read. I bought my girls Pretend Soup and Honest Pretzels. I see that she has a new one called Salad People with the same format. Each recipe has steps with pictures for kids who want some autonomy in the kitchen, but are not yet proficient readers. My girls are 7, 5, and 2 and 7 and 5 year old love these books and are able to make a few things with minimal involvement from me...just general supervision and handling the oven and stovetop requirements. I have always loved Mollie Katzen¹s other cookbooks and cook from them regularly ‹The Moosewood Cookbook and The Enchanted Broccoli Forest are my favorites. Again, they are not vegan. Hope that helps! Krissi Message: 9 Sat, 08 Oct 2005 23:26:35 -0000 " starfirefive " <starfirefive kids in the kitchen Hi everyone. I have another question for you guys. I want to get my kids (4,6, & 12) involved in cooking and grocery shopping. Does anyone have some ideas on kid-friendly starter recipes? Almost everything on the net suggested for kids to make is some kind of cookie. I have to admit-what started me on this kick is all of the reading I've been doing about how many overweight kids we have lately. I'd really like my kids to not only know what foods are good for them, but also what to do with that food when they get it home! I think having the kids go with me and 'help' me with the shopping will also be a good way to start talking more about budgeting. -Lisa
