There's a good explanation at http://www.vegfamily.com/articles/sugar.htm

Also, they only made small mention of it in the article, but beet sugar (as

opposed to cane sugar) is not filtered this way and is totally vegan. I live in

Michigan and the Michigan Sugar brand uses locally grown sugar beets. There are

probably other local companies out there -wherever sugar beets are grown.

To the person who was questioning the sugar used in commercial cereals: I know

that Kellogg's is headquartered in Michigan, so it's probable that they might

use beet sugar in their products. Not sure about this though.

Q: Can anyone explain " bone charred " , as in " bone charred

sugar " ?

Some vegan products say that they contain non bone-charred sugar. I try

to avoid cane sugar anyway, but I am curious.
