Guest guest
Hi All I just returned from vacation and the Farm Sanctuary in NY was awesome. I bought a copy of Peaceable Kingdom there and watched it with my oldest daughter. She came away a vegan. The rest of the vacation also really great and relaxing. The one thing I dislike about vacation is that I have to leave my companion animals. The dog went to the vet, the cats stayed home with someone coming in to give them food and water twice a day and the guinea pigs went to my dd friend. It's great to go away but it's also great to be home. Has anyone seen March of the Penguins yet? We went to see it last night. It was a very touching movie. Anyone who could watch that movie and not see that animals have feelings would have to be blind. The way that the two mating penguins looked at each other and the way that the parents took care of thier baby. I'm sure you know that the father penguin stays with the egg until it hatches and when the mom comes back and sees that baby for the first time, it made me think of seeing my babies for the first time. One caution though, there are some parts of the movie that might upset children (they upset me and I had to avert my eyes). It shows what happens if the parents don't transfer the egg successfully and it freezes. It also has one scene where there was a preditor bird attacking one of the babies. My dd told me that the adult penguins saved it though (I wasn't watching). A couple of babies die in the freezing cold of winter and one mother gets eaten by a seal. Keep in mind that the movie is more than an hour and a half long so these scenes are not a major part. I did have my middle dd on my lap and she not only had hers eyes buried against me she also had her ears plugged. You may want to decide how much " nature " you want your kids to see. Generally, we enjoyed it and I recommend it. Well, it's good to be back. Thanks to everyone who gave me restaurant ideas. We did go to Moosewood and to Le Commensal. Both were great.
