Guest guest
I've always been on the fence between " support big businesses making positive changes " and " big business=all evil, all the time " . And I thought that fruit & walnut salad from McDonald's looked tasty and nutritious. So I thought, hey, why not give it a try? Bleah, I should've just gotten an apple from 7-11 and then eaten a pound of sugar, it would've worked out about the same. What's wrong with just fruit and yogurt, why does each ingredient have to be separately hyper-sweetened? I mean, yeah, it's probably still better than a Big Mac. But I was expecting, I dunno, fruit and yogurt and nuts, not fruit and pudding and walnut-shaped candy bits. So, the lowdown, for anyone else who (like me) doesn't really pay that much attention to the ads, and might be thinking, " wow, McDonalds is really making some great changes, I should check that out! " The salad is cut up apple and grapes. (So far, so good - this is where the ads got me.) The yogurt - my goodness, I've never had anything so sweet in my life. It's also very thick, more like pudding than yogurt, really. (I checked, and it doesn't contain gelatin.) And the walnuts are sugar-coated. The whole thing is 320 calories and a little more than 1/3 of that is fat, and while I wasn't paying attention while glancing at the info, now that I've eaten one, I'm guessing the other 200 calories are pure sugar. Did I mention it's a bit on the sweet side? Now, in McDonald's favor: if, under some extreme circumstance I was starving somewhere with no other food choices available, I would order this " salad " again. It did taste good (if you're looking for dessert!) - it just wasn't what I thought it was being advertised as. It's nice that they have one offering without meat in it. <Faint golf clap for the effort.> But, eh. They've got a ways to go before I'll go back on my own initiative. (The last time I went was sometime in the mid-90's, so I guess I should check again in 2015?) -kt
Guest guest
The McD yogurt is low fat, almost certainly not vegetarian with gelatin. .... Be kind. Be of good cheer. Dick Ford www.dick-ford.com
