My family is kinda hard on us about being vegetarian, and my son is

starting to think it's wrong. We are literally the ONLY

vegetarian/vegan in our entire family. My son does not have any

friends who are either. He really does not want to eat animals by his

own choice..this morning, he even said " mom, are you sure a chick

didn't get killed when they took this egg from the mama? " He wasn't

going to eat it. I told him that that egg DID NOT have a chick in it,

and the hen was free to roam around. It really is his own choice (i

think he's about to go vegan), but my family thinks I'm " brainwashing "

him. Sometimes to fit in, he will say he likes meat, too. I think he's

becoming ashamed of his beliefs.

Is there anything I could say to him to make him feel more secure

and/or proud about his choice?

I don't know how old he is but you can remind him of all the animals that get to

live because he doesn't eat them. I would tell my kids that I was so proud of

them for making the choice to go against what other people do to be kind and

sensitive to the animals. You might also want to show him some info on health

and vegetarianism. My kids are also the only vegetarians we knew (now I find

out that the social worker in the school is veg). They have actually begun to

have thier friends say they no longer want to eat meat. Of course, my oldest

knows exactly what happens to the animals raised for meat and the younger one

knows they are not treated well and are killed. They go out and tell that to

the friends. The moms are getting a little upset with me. I just offer to

share some recipes with them. It is a challenging road if everyone is saying

it's wrong. Simply expain to him why it is right in a manner that is

appropriate for his age. Good Luck
