Guest guest
Does anyone know anything about The Organic Cow of Vermont? I buy this milk but noticed that it is associated with Horizon (the wording is vague on the carton, something like " carefully processes milk for Horizon " ). I live in Massachusetts. - Lauren Niedel Thursday, March 24, 2005 11:06 PM RE: organic dairy Just saw your e-mail - boy that SUCKS!! I know we buy horizon as well as Stonyfield and Cabot - (I live in the NE so I try to buy from NE dairys as much as possible -we go to Horizon when we can't get Stony Field or Cabot (although Cabot is not organic they make it known that they do not use animal based casein) - and then of course there is always Ben & Jerrys - Most of the NE Dairys are smaller and have more humane practices - but it is something that we do consider when we purchase dairy products. Until recently, I have been buying Horizon products, but now I know that while their products are organic, they are still produced in CAFOs. Can anyone recommend an organic dairy brand that is widely available and doesn't engage in those kinds of practices, or are there just not any? I can get Organic Valley and some Stonyfield Farms in a store about an hour away, but I haven't been able to find any clear descriptions of their practices. On the OCA site, they recommend against Horizon but then have them listed as an organic dairy company. Help!! Chessie
Guest guest
1-800-769-9693 a Number you can call - Yes by visiting the web sites - The Organic Cow from Vermont - has been bought out by Horizon Organic - This is happening too much in the Natural foods industry - - You Have Boca Burgers being Bought out by Kraft - Celestial Seansons being bought out by Heinz - and even Fresh Samantha being bought out by a bigger fresh juice CO. - I guess it is called CAPITALISM! It is too bad, because the smaller companies can produce awesome products - but they never seem to last that long - I don't think there is anything that can be done.
