Guest guest
I read something on this the other day... and my daughter is a lot younger, but sort of has the same symptoms. A lot of times, she won't start eating until we take the food away from her. The article was talking about kids having a difficult time with transitions - they're playing, and they want to play, and not especially hungry (especially if they've had a recent snack) and so they come to dinner distracted and two or three bites " fill " them up. But then the body kicks in with the digestion stuff, so in about 20 minutes, they feel hungry, and so want to eat. That sounds like a perfect case for setting her dinner aside and letting her eat it later. It's not forcing her to eat things she hates (my husband will actually throw up unfamiliar foods when he's forced to have a taste, because he's a very sensitive taster and was forced to eat stuff he hated as a kid), it's just letting her eat it when she actually feels hungry. Making her come to the dinner table in the first place and sitting for a given amount of time with the family is still important socially, but actually doing the eating then is maybe secondary. -kt > Message: 3 > Wed, 01 Sep 2004 17:16:40 -0000 > " smartgirl27us " <thesmartfamily3 > Re: Kids 'n' foods > > My current food problem with my daughter is that we will make a meal > that I KNOW that she likes. Guest guest
Pat, It's lovely to be back again and i've missed you too! I believe i demoted myself to normal group member when i handed over to you. I've got a lot going on at the moment. Work issues grr. But i'd love to help however i can. Looking forward to hearing from more of these great new members. I can already see a lot of helpful and friendly people. My aussie friend has just told me there is an old wives' tale about eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice to get pregnant. I'm just trying to the healthiest i can but it is hard when it's easter and you're confort eating to forget about stress at work. My Nan just died as well, which didn't help. However, i thik being veggie gives me a head start and i do always eat a lot of vegetables... although i'm not so hot on fruit. Stawberries and peaches are good but winter fruit sucks! Over here its mainly apples, oranges and bananas that are available. The other stuff gets very expensive and never tastes good as its had so many food miles. I must have a dig in the recipes section. I've only read a few emails and already i've decided to have chilli in tortillas for tea. I wish i knew more about mexican food. I think on the whole british people aren't very aware of the difference between enchilladas, quesidillas and chimichangas etc and i'm no exception. Apart from mexican or american restaurants the food is not that readily available. You can buy tortillas, tacos etc but not that many people know how to use them properly. So i'm on a mission to learn. Thanks for congratulating me Pat. I do like being a Mrs and referring to " my husband " , although i'm still getting used to that. I have my wedding photos online now at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/56565105@N00/sets/72057594096543491/ So feel free to be nosy. Huuuuge hugs to you too, and thanks for such a lovely welcome back! ....and Shell, thanks for the encouragement about knitting. I can't just sit still. I have to be knitting or spinning to crocheting or something!
