Guest guest
Hello to all. My name is Joanne, I am married to Bobby & we have three kids. Tylor is 11, Brianna is 9 and Corban is 7. We are in San Antonio for 4 months, then will be on to somewhere else in October (military). We are from Omaha, NE. We are vegans and we also homeschool ( " unschool " ). We stay away from doctors and chemicals (as best as we can!). That's all the important stuff I can think of in a hurry!! js
Guest guest
Welcome to the list, Joanne! My name is Melissa, and my husband Jeff and I have two children: Sara just turned 5 and Jared is 1 1/2. We are all vegan and homeschooling/unschooling. Although we aren't formally required to homeschool here in FL until next year when Sara is 6, I feel like we have been homeschooling ever since she was born. Learning is just a big part of our lives. We, too, stay away from doctors and chemicals (and plastics whenever possible, and TV, and electronic toys). We do spend a lot of time reading and visiting the library, going to parks and museums, and just playing outside. I'm glad you posted, as I am seeking some advice. Now that Jared is a very active 18-month-old toddler, I am finding it very difficult to spend any quality 1-on-1 time with Sara. We used to spend several hours reading each day, and now we often spend less than 20 minutes. I am only one person, and Jared requires constant attention. How do you find time to meet your children's different age-appropriate needs? Thanks! -Melissa KidBean.com Vegan Baby Superstore > Message: 1 > Mon, 26 Jul 2004 11:06:17 -0700 (PDT) > Joanne Shrestha > <homeschoolx3inne > new / intro > > Hello to all. Guest guest
Melissa, My children have the same age spread, although they are older than yours. First of all, this too shall pass. (Really!) Second, use Jared's naptime. Third, hire a mother's helper -- can even be the 10 year old down the street -- to free you up a bit by playing with Jared in the next room while you're with Sara. Fourth, get your husband to spend more time at home with Jared (or take him out to the playground or whatever). If worse comes to worst, keep in mind that a 2 year age spread instead of 3 1/2 would mean that you'd have two clingy babes simultaneously needing your every moment....so it really could be harder, if that's possible to imagine. <g> Liz
