Guest guest
Hi. All of the Mary Poppins books by P.L. Travers contain the message of accepting others and recognizing non animal earthlings as just as important as humans. I like the fact that the messages are subtle and so the kids can focus on the story line and not so much the message; yet the message comes up time and time again in different ways. My five year old and I just finished reading the third Mary Poppins book (Mary Poppins Opens the Door). I think this is amazing considering the books were written over fifty years ago. It reminds me that the idea of respecting all creatures is not such a new idea. I have yet to get a copy of the Mary Poppins Cookbook, which I think is currently only being printed in England. I do expect there to be some meat dishes in it but I think we can adapt them to our vegetarian diet. Another series of books that carry the message of respect for all life are the Dr. Seuss books. I am proud to say that I have just completed collecting he entire series of these books. Now until the end of the end of the year Borders (and other book stores) are offering buy two get the third free with the Seuss series. My kids just love them. I think I could read the Lorax with my eyes closed, but I never get tired of it. My three year old is not always happy about waiting while the five year old listens to Mary Poppins, but both kids love reading the Seuss books. Someone in St. Charles, MO responded to an earlier message I had written. I lost the message and was hoping to find that person, and others (?), in Missouri again. Could you please e-mail me? This is kind of off topic but my state representative is trying to get Missouri Division of Family Services to investigate the Hotline Employee that accepted the call when we were anonymously hot-lined (by the YMCA) because my son had an " unexplained and unusual mark on his back " . For those of you that missed it, he had jumped into his Thomas the Tank toy box without a shirt on and subsequently started swimming lessons. I will post any updates later. Have a great Thanksgiving, Teresa
