putting a child in daycare for more than a few hours a week will cause social

and educational problems that will continue to haunt the parent for years to

come. Avoid daycares at all costs! I speak from vast experience, as a parent

and someone involved in the daycare industry.

As a researcher, I'd like to see the professional

citations on this.

What research is there to support your blanket

statements? And don't give me stuff from the Heritage

Foundation or some other organization with a political

agenda. I want research published in Early Childhood

Education professional journals by Early Childhood

Educators!

What is your definition of daycare?

Please do not make blanket statements without the

research to back it up. Personal experience is

important but it may be the exception to the rule.

This is why people do research on these sorts of

subjects. Research helps us identify social problems

and address them.

Please specify these supposed social and educational

problems.

All of the documented research I have seen in

professional journals on this subject disagree with

what you have said.

In addition, as I have stated before, the problem is

not daycare, the problem is that most cannot find

QUALITY, AFFORDABLE daycare.

There are daycares that let kids watch TV all day or

kids are not supervised and the place is understaffed.

There are in home sitters and/or parents that watch TV

all day and do not supervise children. There are also

quality daycares that provide appropriate social,

educational, and developmental activities that benefit

children greatly. Do not use your bad experience,

whether with your child's daycare or a previous

employer, to make claims that are not supported in the

literature on daycare research.

Daycares are here to stay and many people will

continue to use them. If corporations, universities,

and all work environments were family friendly,

daycare wouldn't even be an issue. But daycare is an

issue and instead of not sending kids too them we

should be working on making them better places for our

children, if they are truely that bad. I personally

have no problem with daycares. The problems I have had

with daycare have been because of our vegetarianism

not the care that was given to my child. My child is

ahead in language and physical development and is not

suffering any social or educational problems.

Take a look at this article. The headlines looks like

doom and gloom but read the entire article. It is

mostly inconclusive because that is the what happens

in most research. You can't account for every possible

variable out there. So you decided which ones are most

important as a researcher. The article really should

be titled negative effects of childcare only for few.

There are FOUR key points made in the article that I

want you to look at:

1. the research found the majority of children in

daycare don't experience more stress. He also says the

behavioral problems were in NORMAL LIMITS, and NOT

noted as real psychological trauma.

2. A child's socioeconomic background and the

sensitivity of the mother could offset those negative

effects.

3. In that study, Goodman says, kids whose cortisol

levels increased were also children that were

described by their caregivers and teachers and parents

as more SHY. He says that may account for their stress

levels being higher. They don't do well in groups or

outside of the home. So, he says, shy kids MIGHT

struggle in a day care environment. BUT DAYCARE CAN'T

BE BLAMED FOR THE STRESS.(!!!MY EMPHASIS)

4. It's a mistake, Goodman says, to look only at the

children's behavior. Daycares aren't the only places

that influence behavior positively or negatively.

There are other factors to that shapes a child's

behavior, he explains.
