Guest guest
Hello, just wondering if anyone here has had experience with Girl Guides (of Canada) and the cookies. We have joined Sparks for the first time this year and have not wanted to sell cookies and have donated $20 instead (the amount raised from the sale of one case). We are vegan and do not feel it right to be selling something that we would not ourselves eat or give to our children. Though we have not been directly told that we MUST sell cookies, our friend (who is also a leader with the group and is extremely supportive of our situation) is taking a lot of heat over this as, according to the Leader, all guides are supposed to sell them. At an orientation our friend heard from the organization that no girl has to sell cookies, buy a uniform, etc. and that Guides is open to all. The leader of the group, however, has suggested to her that anyone not wanting to sell cookies for the group might want to " rethink " why they want to belong. Anyone with any experience on this issue? ---------------*********-----------------------\ -------------------- For a compassionate world, gwynt Gwyneth Treharne ---------------<><><>--------------------------\ -----------------
Guest guest
I can only tell you my experience with Girl Scouts in the US but I can't imagine the two would be all that different. Aren't they basically the same organization? I'm the cookie mom for our troop , I have been for many years. (DOn't ask, its a long story) But our forms ask us to list girls selling and girls in troop. Each year these numbers do not match, and thats ok. I've never gotten any flack about it. Based on my experience, you may have an over zealous grand poobah of cookie sales (we have one of those too but I jusy=t ignore her.) I hope that helps.
