Guest guest
Dr. Spock was the most influential pediatrician in American history. He sold over 75 million copies of his book on child care. In 1992, the good doctor advised that no child under the age of one should drink cow's milk. In the final version of his book, Spock advised that no child over the age of one should consume dairy products. Dr. Spock on Milk " Cow's milk has become a point of controversy among doctors and nutritionists. There was a time when it was considered very desirable, but research has forced us to rethink this recommendation...dairy products contribute to a surprising number of health problems... " Benjamin Spock, M.D., " Child Care, " 7th Edition Dr. Spock died in 1998, and something evil has taken over and infected his website. Those parasites feeding off of his good name promote the use of cow's milk for infants. When asked: " My daughter has turned one, and we are beginning to introduce cow's milk into her diet. What is the best method to do so? " DrSpock.com responds: " ...commonly it's given in small amounts in a cup after feedings of solid food. Some parents like the method of alternating cow's milk with breast milk or formula throughout the day. Other parents prefer to mix the milk with an equal part of formula at first and then gradually add less formula over the next few days until stopping the formula altogether. " When asked: " My six-week-old baby has a cold, with a very congested cough. She is having trouble sucking on her bottle and breathing at the same time. My mother-in-law suggested adding less powder or more water to her formula to thin it out. How do you feel about this? " DrSpock.com responds: " ...a young infant breathes through her nose when she sucks, so if her nose is blocked up, she literally can't breathe and eat at the same time and her natural reflex is to opt for air over food. Rather than thinning her formula, you need to try to get to the root of the problem by clearing her nose. " When asked: " My 18-month-old son has never had a problem with cow's milk, but over the past week or so, he has had terrible diarrhea and been throwing up...with no fever or other symptoms of a cold or infection. Over the past 24 hours, we've only given him soy milk (for milk) and he has not had diarrhea since. ....Should we also be trying Lactaid or equivalent to rule out lactose intolerance, or should we stick with soy milk? " DrSpock.com responds: " You should consult with your child's healthcare provider to see when you can begin re-introducing cow's milk back into your son's diet and to make sure that something else isn't contributing to your son's problems. In the mean time, lactose free milk or soy milk should work fine. Those people running things at Dr. Spock.com have corrupted Dr. Spock's message. Robert Cohen http://www.notmilk.com
