Hello All,

It's been a few months since the last time I posted on

here (I was looking for a doctor for my expected

daughter).

Now, I'm looking for help finding another doctor. We

are getting ready to move from Baltimore to Northern

Virginia for my husband's job, so I need to find a new

pediatrician for my daughter. I don't know the area

at all, but we will be renting a home in Centerville

for the time being (in Fairfax County). My daughter

is 3months old, vegan, and 100% breast fed. Also, I

have not yet started her vaccinations, as I have very

strong mixed feelings about them. I would like to

find a doctor who is open to a vegan/natural

lifestyle, and also who will work with me on the topic

of vaccination.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Hi Mandy!

Every time our family has moved (several times in the last 5 years!), I've done

a few things to help ease the transition.

1) Look for a local API (attachment parenting international) group. If there is

one, I contact them for info on local physicians.

2) Contact the local La Leche League group for the same reason. You can find

the list of local chapters on the big LLL website. Contact info is listed.

3) Look for a local PROVE group or other vaccination group.

4) Look for a local veggie family group. You can find these via different

veggie sites or by checking with local health food stores. Health food stores

are great places to get info on the community. I've relied on them many times

when there weren't any other avenues.

5) After getting names of physicians, call the offices and make an appt to

either talk on the phone or meet in person. This is the time to ask all the

questions and show all your cards.

Finally, I've learned that the *vegetarian* issue is only an issue when *I*

bring it up to the physician or the med. staff. The less I talk about it with

them (they don't have the nutritional training anyway), the better off I am. I

get more detailed nutritional info from groups like this and my own research.

Good luck with your move. Ya know...another good thing about taking these steps

to research the area is that you are going directly to groups of like mind and

you may start making some new friends in the process.
