Guest guest
Hello, all. It has been awhile since I've contributed anything. My oldest son turned 5 on July first. We went to a water park instead of a party and had a birthday morning brunch with grandma. I made an organic chocolate cake with strawberries and we had canteloupe, pineapple, strawberries and marshmallow fluff as fruit dip for a special junk treat because it has no gelatin of any sort in it. and although it is pure sugar, it is a treat to have the taste of marshmallows. I have been vegetarian for 11 years, and although there were some very unhealthy and poverty stricken times in my life, overall i feel that i have tried my best to eat the healthiest that i can. My children are fed very well, espescially because i feel that my brother's allergies and his inability to continue with drastic changes in his diet as an 8 year old caused his learning disabilities and eventually lead him to self medicating. He is an addict, and i am not too hopeful at this point. Maybe some day he will clean up. The point is, i am SOOO careful about the way i watch my child react to the foods that he eats and the effects of chemicals and preservatives on him are awful. He made the concious decision about three weeks ago to stop drinking cow's milk altogether. ( we recieve WIC, which is the only reason i even buy the cow milk.and he has always preferred Rice Dream and Edenblend, and we tried the 8th continent and Belsoy recently.) He said to me one day, " Mom, does this milk really come out of a cow's body? " We had a discussion about what things are made of, and later in the week we were driving down to Indiana to see my parents and he said " Mom, cow milk comes from a cow's gutters. " I laughed so hard. Given the choice, he picks the natural food. Staying with my mom for two weeks, he was watched a few times by a friend of hers while my mom went to work at her health food store. The woman watching Solstice has a 4 year old son, and his mom feeds him whatever looks like the most " fun " . When she offered Solstice a bright green freezie pop he told her that food coloring is bad for you, that he doesn't eat that at his house, and that he would have to have my mom pack him a lunch so he can eat " not bad food " I just beam. I love how much they listen when you tell them that things are important!! Love, Natalie Joy & her boys
