Guest guest
Hi all - addressing a few topics, here. 1. *Please* snip original posts when replying. Some of us receive digests, and we have to scroll down through pages of repeated messages (and repeated replies to replies to messages....!). Removing extraneous parts of the original message in your reply saves a great deal of aggravation for digest users. 2. HFS = Health Food Store. Sorry, Natalie - abbreviations are so much easier, but I know it can be confusing to newbies. 3. Aluminum foil - Jeanne, thanks for the info on the environmental cost of producing foil. I had no idea! I would add that aluminum is a significant factor in Alzheimer's and other heavy-metal poisoning diseases, and that cooking with foil is one way to die a slow death. heating the metal to high temps activates its molecules and some can pass into the food. I may be exaggerating slightly - cooking once with foil may not be your ultimate demise - but I gave up foil a long time ago and there are usually alternatives. When grilling corn, leave it in its husks. If a veggie has been marinated for awhile (hours or overnight), then you don't really the foil to keep the marinade on, since it will have soaked into the food. You can also use many ceramic pots over fire, although you don't get quite the same roasting effect. But then, roasting/grilling is carcinogenic, anyway. So adding heavy metal poisoning to a cancerous form of food preparation - I'm making myself ill just thinking about it.... LOL! 4. Eczema - Did I suggest omega-3 oils? (Flaxseed oil) 5. Hospital C-section rates - there's a group called ICAN which is a nation-wide c-sec. support group. They may be able to help. I don't have contact info handy but look around for them online or check yellow pages or even ask at the hospitals if they have info about the group. Guest guest
Thanks, for the c-section group. I will definately look them up. I was also worried that I was one of few in this group who doesn't use foil and knows the dangerous effects of it. I always cringe when relatives wrap up my food in the stuff. With so many alternatives there is no reason to touch the stuff!! - Doh! Thursday, May 22, 2003 9:20 PM Several things... Guest guest
Doh, could you expand on the roasting/grilling is carcinogenic thing? I haven't heard of that. And would you also share the website on honey that you mentioned? I'm on the road to veganism, but don't know much about bees/honey. Thanks, Bonnie - Doh!
