Guest guest
Hi Shelly, I could hardly believe the prices you mentioned. I bought a copy of " Simply Heavenly Monastery Vegetarian Cookbook " last year through Abebooks. I could not remember what I paid for it but I knew, like you, that I would never have paid $60+ for a paperback cookbook. I went back to look at my Abebooks purchases to discover that on 17th September 2005 I bought a copy for $6. I bought this and one other book. The total cost for the two books, including postage from USA to Europe, was $23. I then checked Abebooks current availability for this book. Would you believe that there is only one on offer - for $146.93!!!!!!!!! No, I am not kidding. I hope it is printed with gold leaf for that price. That is so exorbitant that it makes me quite mad. If one bookseller can sell a copy for $6 why should someone else charge more than 24 times what the first seller charged? I can't get over it. I just wonder if, perhaps, interest in this title from members of the group could have forced the price up. After all, sellers of a scarce commodity can charge virtually what they want, knowing that there is a demand. I looked at the details about the book currently for sale and there is absolutely nothing to indicate that it is in any way a special copy - nothing about 'first edition', 'signed by author' or anything else that would justify the price. However my experience does prove one thing - the book can be found for less than outrageous prices if you keep your eyes open. Good luck with your quest. Guest guest
that is exactly what has happened.. this book is out of print, and therefore pricey! still.. if enough interest is there, perhaps we all shoudl be going to the publisher, and requesting reprints! =) jenni On Jan 19, 2006, at 9:58 AM, Marie Rieuwers wrote: > Hi Shelly, > > I could hardly believe the prices you mentioned.
