It is completely unnecessary and personally I believe is a contributing factor to the rising obesity and diabetic problems we are having. It is a highly processed sugar, you'd be amazed at what it can be found in....canned soups, bread, almost all processed foods. If you'd like to learn more just go to Google and type in HFCS.
