Guest guest
I have experimented many times making sweet and sour sause and finally came up with the following. I also like to make *sticky rice balls* or egg rolls and dip them in this favorite sauce. Sweet and Sour Sauce 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar 4 tab. brown sugar 1 tab. tomato paste pinch of sea salt 4-5 teasp. of apple juice, or purified water 2-3 teasp.cornstarch(depending on desired consistancy) Set aside cornstarch, juice/water Mix vinegar, sugar, tomato paste and salt and bring to boil over med. heat reduce heat to simmer Mix cornstarch with cold juice/water and slowly add to mixture it will appear cloudy at first but will soon become transparent. When thickened serve hot or cold. Store unused portion in the frige. Optional Ingredients : replace pinch of sea salt with 1 tsp. soy sauce and reduce liquid to 4 teasp. add finely chopped onion, green pepper, crushed pineapple, and garlic to first ingredients and allow additional simmer time until tender. add a pinch of hot chili spice. I find that the secret for making any sweet and sour sauce is *one sour for one sweet*. Bon Appetit/Enjoy Deanna
