Guest guest
I have been off and on veg for a while, and am striving to go vegan and lose weight in the process. However, I am constantly hungry when I eliminate cheese and eggs for protein. Anyone else go throught this transition? I'm stuck on what's easy to snack on besides carrots and V8 juice. Tips? thoughts? Melissa P
Guest guest
Hi Melissa P, What I do is just cook up some brown rice. I have gotten in the habit of cooking some up every morning when I get up. And then whatever else I decide to have during the day will go in with the rice, or on top of it. I season it with olive oil and garlic or onion or Mrs. Dash or...you get the general idea. Also, in the morning for breakfast I have slow cooking oatmeal and organic sugar, with a little plain soymilk splashed in, which I cook in the microwave. I might also include some chopped apples and some raisins, or maybe some dried apricots. If I'm rich, I add some chopped pecans or walnuts as well. To this I add 2 T. flaxseed meal and mix all together. Eating this lasts a lonnng time in my tummy. And then I have the rice for the rest of the day. I have been on this stir-fry kick lately, so I will cook up a stir fry mixture (frozen) and mix the rice in. If I have any mushrooms extra, I chop them coarsely and throw them in as well. For a meat craving, portobellos work VERY well, as they taste very deep and dark and satisfying. You might try some Boca burgers also; having them in the freezer is good for when you don't want to wait for stir fry to cook. They cook in 1 1/2 minutes. And here they come in Roasted Garlic, Roasted Onion, Vegan, and I forget what all else. Really tasty, though! You can either eat 'em plain or top 'em with ketchup and mustard, pickles, onion, tomatoes...on a bun or not. As you choose. But I find, in a nutshell, that A) whole grains and B) lots of vegetables silence the old craving for animal protein. I hope you are able to glean something useful from my ideas and practices. :>) Bron On 1/4/06, Melissa <mapalicka wrote: > > I have been off and on veg for a while, and am striving to go vegan and > lose weight in the process. Guest guest
Bron, I can tell that I would be very comfortable having breakfast or any meals at your home. I do not have a weight problem and it seems to me that I am eating all day. I begin my day with fruit juice and more often than not a baked yam , dried fruit or something that I cooked the day before and a cup of green tea. I try to end my day with a fresh green salad dressed with flax seed oil or olive oil and vinegar. I also drink at least 8 oz. of purified water per day along with postum or special teas when I have company. I love to cook and to eat and I am blessed with good health. Not a single medication, have never had the flu in my life(do not take the flu shot), and I am soon to be 65..Life is a wonderful adventure. You are all invited to my place for tea. Or we can pack a lunch and go to the nature trail. Smiles and hugs to you all. Deanna - In , <southernflower@g...> wrote: > > Hi Melissa P, > > What I do is just cook up some brown rice.
