The Ethiopian restaurants that I have tried are definitely willing to make it mile, medium, spicy or super spicy. Apparently they start with a basic sauce that isn't hot and as people order, they add the spice stuff that makes it spicy. My spouse like really hot. So, we both get to eat it exactly the way we prefer. You may want to call ahead and ask if they can make it very mild. You may be pleasantly surprised.
