Exactly! Well we don't use much canned stuff -

*but* I wouldn't be without canned tomatoes,

tomato 'sauce' and paste, and I do keep in canned

corn niblets from time to time because they're so

handy in bean salads, etc. (I also get in frozen

packs for the same reason) as well as soups. And

I generally like to keep in a couple of cans of

turtle/black beans 'just in case'. As for the

rest? Well, I don't usually, but ya never know.

;=)

I think it's a matter of doing what we have to do

- Busy people can't always afford to be gourmets

- and sometimes canned goods are a good price and

can be used for things that don't require the

latest fresh-from-the-garden variety, or for

things that otherwise would require so very much

work that it would get in the way of the whole

purpose of serving it. And some people have to

stock up on what's available at a fair price.

Applause for those who find good qualilty canned

or jarred veggies for their babes and toddlers in

order to make nutritious baby food at home.

(Likewise those who do the same for their

furkids. My dogs adore green beans, any way they

come, and (unsweetened) pumpkin - and they're

often on sale.)

I think this group is wonderful at being so

supportive of everyone else :=) We might not all

have the same tastes or eat in the same way, but

we do share a particular interest in vegetarian

food, and in that we have a very important thing

in common - unlike the other 95 per cernt of the

population.

One thing though: Does anyone remember those

canned asparagus spears served in over-buttered

white bread and rolled up as cocktail snacks or

tea sandwiches? I still have a nostalgia for

them, but I doubt if I would enjoy them now LOL

Best love, Pat
