Guest guest Posted November 28, 2005 Report Share Posted November 28, 2005 From Taste Of Home Vanilla Butter Rollouts 1 1/2 cups butter, softened 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 eggs 3 tsp vanilla extract 4 cups flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp cream of tartar 1 tsp salt Frosting: 6 tablespoons butter, softened 3 cups confectioners sugar 1/4 cup milk 3 teaspoons vanilla extract Colored frosting and/or colored sugar, optional In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until easy to handle. On a lightly floured surface, roll out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with 2 1/2 inch cookie cutters dipped in flour. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 F for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from cookie sheets and cool on wire racks. For the frosting, combine butter, confectioners sugar, milk, and vanilla in a mixing bowl. Beat until smooth. Spread or drizzle over the cooled cookies.
