Guest guest
Hi all, My name is Chris and I was born in Kerala in 1951. I have been vegetarian since 1983. I am writing to invite all who are interested to participate in a very worthwhile science project called climateprediction.net. This is a distributed computing project similar to seti@home, but with an arguably more urgent objective. Here is a brief synopsis of what the project hopes to achieve, taken from the climateprediction website. " The aim of climateprediction.net is to allow us to explore how climate may change in the next century under a wide range of different scenarios. In the past estimates of climate change have had to be made using one or, at best, a very small ensemble (tens rather than thousands!) of model runs. By using your computers, we will be able to improve our understanding of, and confidence in, climate change predictions more than would ever be possible using the supercomputers currently available to scientists. " If you think you might develop some enthusiasm for this project you can find out more and sign up at http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/index.php Please read the technical requirements before signing up and downloading the software as the program is quite muscular and will not work on some machines. If you do decide you want to be involved, I have also started an international team for vegetarians and vegans amongst the CPDN community. The name of the team is V, and anyone is free to sign up or leave at any time. Any CPDN participant is also free to start their own team as they wish. If you are already sure you want to join V, you can join the project directly from the team URL: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/create _account_form.php?teamid=1825 I would be happy to answer any questions (to the best of my ability) so please feel free to write me at c_mackrell Thank you very much for taking the time to read this post, and I hope I see you in the climateprediction community. Sincerely Chris MacKrell
