I have taken dried fresh barley green for years, and it is a wonderful

supplement -- entirely natural, never heated, with full compliment of

enzymes. I knew it had lots of vitamins, but didn't realize these included

B12. The one I take is called Barley Max. It does not have a bad

taste -- it is a fine green powder. One bottle lasts over a month. The

reason to take this is to enhance one's immune system. It must be working,

since I'm in perfect health at age 77. Of course I eat only vegan

vegetarian foods, and that's got to help also.

Hi Gordon,

According what the product I had in mind, the food suppliment says it's

source for B12 is barley. Here is the product called Superfood:

  • 2 years later...

We just made a Shepherd's Pie... we made a whole mess of mashed

potatoes with soy milk and vegan margarine. Then, we use frozen mixed

veggies, thawed and cooked into a kind of stew with a gravy from Vegan

Vittles cookbook. Here's the gravy recipe:

Rich Brown Gravy (from Vegan Vittles cookbook)

2T cornstarch

3T soy sauce

1-1/2 C water--we used veggie stock (canned)

1/2 t garlic granules

2T tahini

(My husband also added oregano, thyme, wine, sea salt, pepper and

Worcestershire sauce, to taste)

1) Place cornstarch in 1-qt saucepan and stir in soy sauce to make

smooth paste

2) Gradually wisk in veggie stock and garlic

3) Place saucepan over med-high heat and cook gravy, stirring w/ wisk

constantly, until it thickens and comes to boil

4) Remove from heat and beat in tahini using wisk. Serve at once... or

add to your veggies to make the filling for the Shepherd's Pie

We layered potatoes on bottom, veggies in gravy in middle and more

potatoes on top and baked for 30 minutes until brown on top. YUM!
