My Hubby thinks he is deprived if he doesnt have his meat and potatoes everyday. He is a huge steak/roast/brisket man! My most difficult thing is finding things that leave him feeling satisfied on nights I make completely meat-free meals. I make alot of meat-meals, just eats something different myself, or eat more side dishes (rice, vegies, pastas etc) and none of the meat. I am not sure about alot of the different means to make sure my body is getting its neccessary protien, so until I get the hang of it, I cant justify cutting meat out of my childrens diets. I am really looking forward to learning alternatives and meals that are rich in the essentials. Nice to meet someone else who is in the learning department as well. Have a great day! Guest guest
> My husband is a BIG steak man, so this will be a real > challenge!!! This may or may not be an option for you, but I thought I'd throw it out here and let you decide for yourself. When I became a vegetarian, I was the first in the family, then my daughter joined me the next day (my son said he did, but soon returned to meat). I didn't want to force anything on anyone, but didn't want to return to meat myself, so I cooked 2 meals at a time. This lasted about 2 weeks, and my dh took mercy on me and said he'd be willing to eat mostly vegetarian meals and just have meat once a week or so. So this is what we are doing now, at HIS request. Perhaps you could start out with cooking 2 meals at a time, and your husband may make the same decision mine did. Guest guest
And I'll bet he's as big as I am! One problem I have is losing weight, and I can only blame my thyroid for part of it. It took me quite a while to accept, but I had put food in the wrong place in my life. It was made to enjoy, but I enjoy it too much. It was ruining my health for pete's sake, and I still couldn't stop eating the wrong things. I had to put it in it's proper place -- good, enjoyable, but not to be worshipped. Only then could I make a genuine effort to eat more healthy. I suspect your husband is doing the same thing I was. He wouldn't feel deprived if he wasn't. Oh, he might miss it, but wouldn't feel deprived!
