Guest guest
Thank you Donni! I too love bacon and miss it. Thank you for sharing this recipe with us. I cannot wait to try it. Bacon was the hardest thing to give up - that heavenly smell, the chew. I've tried several recipes and this is definitely the best; I've even fooled all the meat-eaters: Hickory Bits 1/2 cup textured vegetable protein 1/3 cup water 2 Tbsp. soy sauce 1 tsp. maple syrup 1/2 - 1 tsp. liquid smoke flavouring (I use the larger amount) 1 tsp. canola oil. Place TVP in small heatproof mixing bowl. Combine all other ingredients except oil in saucepan and bring to boil. Pour boiling liquid over TVP and let stand 5 minutes. Heat oil over medium-high heat and add mixture. Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring constantly until the moisture is evaporated and TVP is lightly browned, about six to eight minutes. Remove skillet from heat and let the bits cool. Store covered in a container in the fridge. Mmmm. Donni
