Guest guest
Hi everyone, In some of my health groups, we have discussed cutting down on meat and simple carbs and upping veggies and their protein in our diets. I volunteered to play the food detective and see what we can do to sub the pasta with veggies instead. I am going to cross group email; so I just want all to know what I am talking about in the up coming post with the recipes. Also, there is bacon in two of the recipes and shrimp, but I know all of you can make wonderful substitutes and let your culinary imagination run wild with what I am posting. If any on you come up with wonderful recipes based on what I am going to post, PLEASE share them with us! Have a wonderful week everyone! Susan R. Guest guest
I may be slow, but I think this is worth the wait. Bacon was the hardest thing to give up - that heavenly smell, the chew. I've tried several recipes and this is definitely the best; I've even fooled all the meat-eaters: Hickory Bits 1/2 cup textured vegetable protein 1/3 cup water 2 Tbsp. soy sauce 1 tsp. maple syrup 1/2 - 1 tsp. liquid smoke flavouring (I use the larger amount) 1 tsp. canola oil. Place TVP in small heatproof mixing bowl. Combine all other ingredients except oil in saucepan and bring to boil. Pour boiling liquid over TVP and let stand 5 minutes. Heat oil over medium-high heat and add mixture. Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring constantly until the moisture is evaporated and TVP is lightly browned, about six to eight minutes. Remove skillet from heat and let the bits cool. Store covered in a container in the fridge. Mmmm.
