Guest guest
hi everyone ... i met someone recently who was very interested in my vegetarianism and the ethical reasons behind it. he asked if i had suggestions for books that explained what i believed and how i came to the decision to be a vegetarian. i told him that it was essentially a decision that i made instinctively because it felt right to me, but that after i reached that decision, i read statements by albert schweitzer and animal liberation by peter singer, and that those books validated what i was feeling -- at least in part. if any of you want to offer other reading suggestions, please do so. i told him i would e-mail him with some resources. i'm going to make some distinctions for him in terms of which books might seem rather "radical" from the typical american perspective and which are more mainstream. thanks for any suggestions... rita
Guest guest
This may sound really lame, but the book that helped me the most was " The Complete Idiot's Guide to Being Vegetarian. " Especially the chapters on factory farms and the environment. Another book I enjoyed was " Mad Cowboy " about the former cattle rancher who turned vegetarian (vegan). He was the guy on Oprah a few years ago that got sued by the meat corporations. Guest guest
The Vegetarian Way is a book. I'm sorry I do not remember the author. It is a good one though. I like it because it tells what a person needs to eat to be a healthy vegetarian (ie. protein combining) reeeeta wrote: hi everyone ... i met someone recently who was very interested in my vegetarianism and the ethical reasons behind it. he asked if i had suggestions for books that explained what i believed and how i came to the decision to be a vegetarian. i told him that it was essentially a decision that i made instinctively because it felt right to me, but that after i reached that decision, i read statements by albert schweitzer and animal liberation by peter singer, and that those books validated what i was feeling -- at least in part. if any of you want to offer other reading suggestions, please do so. i told him i would e-mail him with some resources. i'm going to make some distinctions for him in terms of which books might seem rather "radical" from the typical american perspective and which are more mainstream. thanks for any suggestions... rita contact owner: -owner Mail list: Delivered-mailing list List-Un: - no flaming arguing or denigration of others allowedcontact owner with complaints regarding posting/list or anything else.
