Guest guest
Thanks so much to everyone who responded to my " Best Meat-substitute brand? " post. I got so much useful info. Someone suggested trying Seitan as an alternative. Well...I went to our local healthfood/wholefood store and they had it! I had NEVER heard of it 'til I came to this board. It looks kind of icky raw and scared me, but this store has an excellent vegetarian deli and they had some BBQ seitan. Well, I brought it home, tasted a piece *cold* and it was actually yummy!!! I was shocked! It tastes like it could be meat! Hopefully I can find many more subs like this and convince my hubby that this stuff is tasty, so we can ween ourselves off of meat completely. So far, I'm impressed by some of the options. I also bought some Quorn brand garlic and herb breaded " chicken " cutlets. One of my husband's co-workers warned us about the meatless " chicken " because his wife, who is vegetarian, has cooked it much to his dismay. I decided to be brave and try them anyway. I'm a full-time student, so I don't have a lot of time to cook. Right now, I'm practically surviving on processed foods. Oh well. Six more months and I'm out, baby! (Sorry for digressing) :-) Thanks again for all your helpful suggestions. -Tracey
