Guest guest
does anyone know of a good book for learning the effects of different herbs? I am looking for a book organized by herb detailing the traditional uses and effects of the herb. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thank you, --jon
Guest guest
ok. I just got back from Wal-mart and they are selling a sm. paperback of The Pill Book Guide to Natural Medicines. It seems to be pretty well organized and, when one counters the info against other books, perhaps it will prove to be a valuable reference. -dawn , " jstockdill2000 <jstockdill2000> " <jstockdill2000> wrote: > does anyone know of a good book for learning the effects of different > herbs? But you can easily find info on the web as well. I did, and I'm in the process of making a file. Of course it all depends on whether you mean herbs for cooking or herbs for medicinal purposes (as in herb teas, essential oils for rubbing and sniffing, poultices etc...) You can also include the words " recipes " , " ingredients " and " mix " (this means that you will find actual recipes, not just a hundred commercial web pages SELLING herbs) If you don't want to grow your own, use a good search engine with boolean and type " NOT growing " , " NOT planting " , " NOT seeds " ! Maybe some web-gained knowledge will be useful to you even if you plan to buy an actual book. Guest guest
Irene, thanks for the lesson on online boolean searches; however, searching on the web using keywords is not what I want. i want advice from people experienced with the various books. I do not trust advice in posts on amazon, since it is a commerical website. yes, I am interested in any books sorted by herb rather than use. I want to purchase both cooking herb and holistic use oriented books. Can you recommend any books? any online sources would be useful too. also, please send your file to the group. --jon -----Forwarded Message----- Irene Maradei <shantima Re: a book organized by herb 12 Jan 2003 07:02:13 +0200 " jstockdill2000 <jstockdill2000 " <jstockdill2000 >does anyone know of a good book for learning the effects of different herbs? --jon Many out there, just put " herb " in the search box at Amazon or Barnesandnoble. Hi Jon, i'm not sure how detailed you want the books to be but i have a great one for beginners (such as myself). Not sure if u can get it in the US (i'm guessing thats where you are). I'm in the UK you see. Anyway, the book is: Herbal Remedies In Pots by Effie Romain & Sue Hawkey. " A practical guide to growing medicinal herbs in containers " . " Growing and making Herbal remedies for common ailments " . Its published by Dorling Kindersley. Hope this helps, Laura
