Guest guest
Hi all, haven't posted in a while, but I have stopped by in " lurk " mode just to look for new recipes. Hey, that one for stuffed mushrooms looks good mmmmmmmm... Has anyone else tried the Quorn Turkey-Style Roast? It was on sale at our Natural foods store, and I was looking for something different for a holiday dinner, so we tried it. It was somewhat dry, but then turkey breast was always somewhat dry. Also the plastic-type thing that it is wrapped in (you are supposed to cook it with it on) was rather gross. On the positive side, it did brown up rather nicely. It did slice rather nicely, and the leftovers made good un-turkey sandwiches, and also a really good creamed un-turkey & vegetables on biscuits! Hope you are all enjoying your holidays. cheryll
Guest guest
Hi Cheryll. Yes, I bought one and fixed it for my xmas dinner as well. I wrote my review of it over at my other veggie group. Sounds like we both had pretty much the same opinion of it. I did give it two thumbs up and would fix it again. I think it was a tad dry, but with a nice mushroom gravy it was lovely. Anyway, here is my review cut and pasted: Quorn roast review For Christmas dinner this year I tried one of the Quorn brand meat-free roast (turkey-style 16 oz.; serves 5). I don't know if I really remember what real turkey tastes like, and truthfully I think I'd rather I had forgotten, but this was delicious. My son and daughter tried a bit of it and even they thought it was good, though they still ate the turkey breast my husband cooked for them. Anyway, I would certainly recommend it as a meat-free alternative. It lacked a bit in the asthetics department. It came in a tube shaped plastic baking wrapper. One is to puncture the wrapper and bake it while still encased, so the outside gets golden brown. I was skeptical that this would work, but it did rather well. After baking, one is to remove it from the oven and let it sit for 10 minutes before removing the wrapper and slicing. I wasn't really too impressed with how it looked; a brown sausage shaped tube of mystery food. *lol* However, I do think one could jazz it up by pre-slicing it before bringing it to the table and then displaying it with a garnish of parsely sprigs and cranberry sauce. Since it was just for myself, I didn't bother with that, and as I said it did taste good. I give it two thumbs up and would buy it again. ~ P_T ~ / A 'NO' uttered from deepest conviction is better and greater than a 'YES' merely uttered to please, or what is worse, to avoid trouble. ~ Mahatma Gandhi ~~~~*~~~~*~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> , " cheryll <naturalist_44240> " <naturalist_44240> wrote: > Has anyone else tried the Quorn Turkey-Style Roast?
