Guest guest
I'm new to the vegetarian world, and received this email recently asking the question, " Is Vegetarianism Biblical? " . This isn't a personal attack, and perhaps this is the wrong group to discuss this but since religion is my area of study, I totally disagree with the findings given to me. I employ anyone to respond to this. Because perhaps, I misread and/or misunderstood the whole context. All in all, I disagree that the bible recommends or commands us to be vegetarians. But, I do agree that bible make some kind of reference to an ideal situation of being vegetarians in a more holy and pure environment, i.e., in Heaven--not on Earth. In Isaiah Chapter 11, the Bible speaks of a man name Jesse and how the spirit of the Lord is with him. In verses six through nine, it referred how the spirit worked through Jesse by (a matter of speaking) calming the animals. In Genesis Chapter 1, the Bible tells the story of God creating the earth in six days (and resting on the seventh). In the King James Version, the word cattle were used; in more modern Bibles the word livestock is used because cattle and other animals (associated as livestock) is used as food and/or profit. For sake of terminology, lets use the word " animal " . In Genesis 1:24-26, God gave man dominion over all animals. But the Bible never mention too what extent is this dominion. In addition, you have to know that in the beginning, Adam and Eve lived in a flawless world before they ate from the tree of knowledge. But, just in case this hasn't convince you. Here's a section of the bible you should read: Genesis 9:2-4. In verse four, the Bible reads " the flesh with the life thereof " , it means not to be a cannibal. Genesis 9 2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. 3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. 4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. So perhaps, when we all die and go to heaven, the ideal eternal life may to become vegetarians. But for now, the Bible (tells me so) says it's okay to eat meat...or to be a vegetarian. (Free Will) B.
