Guest guest
I just wanted to chime in here. I'm a strict vegetarian, pretty close to vegan in lifestyle, not just diet. My husband is not vegetarian. We're raising our children 1 & 4 1/2 years old, strict veggie like me. My husband supports it. My son is just entering the school system, so our roller coaster ride begins! lol I'm now working on veganizing some recipe for the preschool halloween party! ~gv MSeriynneM wrote: I am interested in this as well. I have always said that I would raise my children vegetarian, but I've gotten much opposition from others. They feel that it's not right, but I just can't see myself preparing meat stuff for my children when I don't eat it myself. What do you think? Guest guest
Hi veggie-moms, I was raised a vegetarian and it was a bit time consuming to my mom but she says it was well worth it. From babyhood she made my baby food and everything(along with my two brothers). It was alittle hard to deal with in school but nothing too bad. Toward 5th/6th grade I earned the name Carrot-killer but it just became a laughable memory and didn't bother me too much even at the time. My mom packed our lunches everyday of course and it mostly consisted of veggie sandwiches on whole wheat bread(which I hated and still hate to this day, why ruin bread by making it good for you j/k), we ate some dairy so she'd also pack yogurt or cottage cheese with fruit, bean sandwiches, hummus as veggie dip or on sandwiches. I'll try to think of some recipes or ideas for kid party food. I can say one thing for sure, I was one of the healthiest kids in my classes for most of elementary school. I barely ever got sick and had many perfect-attendence years. One thing to think of is when kids go on field trips with school they usually stop at fast food places for lunch and I always had a tough time finding something to eat so you might want to help your kid out ahead of time with ideas(just point out what you would get or what might be available other than the burger and fries value meals). Stick with it if you can, I love my mom for it and have also recruited a few friends along the way....one of my best friends didn't even know not eating meat was an option, she never heard of it before(granted this was in 5th grade when I first met her but still). Raising kids vegetarian definitely brings out the creative side of veggie-moms good luck! ~Elizabeth >C-Mendola > > > Re: Raise kids veg? >Wed, 23 Oct 2002 22:00:08 -0400 > >I just wanted to chime in here.
