Oh well. LOL You're welcome to do this, but it would be extremely labor intensive, I'd think. > So, if I post a recipe, I would just put at the top " In files " if I had uploaded there already; or " Not in Files " if I know I wont have time. I don't even understand this concept. First, we have no list owner to moderate this stuff, and whomever she was, she was kind enough to leave the permissions wide open so that anyone can post a recipe to the file. So... what is the problem you wish to address with this idea? Who would monitor it? I'm just dense, I guess, but this doesn't jive with anything I know about files and how they work -- or I'm just not getting something. > Mix recipes, so I put them all in the same file so that when I get around to actually making something I can try different versions to see which is the best or combine them to suit me. A common ID system would allow for that. Are you suggesting we restrict who can post to the files? We can't do that -- only a list owner could do that. > It would be more visible to all to post comments in email, but > that means the file " creator " would have to be the one to add the other person's comment. Yeah... too complex... too much work. The file system is simple. > I have seen quite a few times here that after someone posts a recipe, it starts sort of a discussion with others mentioning it being similar to their own, but " here's what I do " or " this is how I make me " - that sort of thing. > I like to add all those comments to the end of the original recipe, as possible variations. Are you volunteering to post all the new recipes to the files and keep up with the comments on them? That's fine with me. It's a lot of work. I just thought folks could file their own recipes... or if someone wants to scan the archives some more, I know I don't have all the recipes in there. For instance, I haven't filed the corn- based ones, or the eggplant ones... so please have at it. > I'm just so glad the Files are going to be used, Me too! > Thanks again for all your efforts, and for everyone else who has pitched in too. You're very welcome, Vivian! I'm glas you're making good use of the files. Melinda

I'm just dense, I guess, but this doesn't jive with anything I know about files and how they work -- or I'm just not getting something. (Merely commenting on the community idea ID that I cant recall who brought up, but I believe it was to enable editing of files/folders created by someone else. The "permissions" are never "wide open" with as any files one creates can ONLY be edited/deleted by the creator - noone else can do anything with it. I dont think it was necessarily a problem being addressed; just a possible solution being suggested when someone mentioned that files CANNOT be moved/edited by anyone other than the "creator". Sort of a solution to a 'what if" situation, I guess) > Mix recipes, so I put them all in the same file so that when I get around to actually making something I can try different versions to see which is the best or combine them to suit me. ( No I dont think that suggestion was made, certainly not by me. My above comment was merely sharing *my* personal method of combining similar type recipes, and again commenting on someone else's suggestion about this common ID concept, indicating a 'what if" situation where it MIGHT come in handy. ) > I have seen quite a few times here that after someone posts a recipe, it starts sort of a discussion with others mentioning it being similar to their own, but "here's what I do" or "this is how I make me" - that sort of thing. > I like to add all those comments to the end of the original recipe, as possible variations. I can barely keep up with filing the daily digest; individual recipes would be out of the question at this time. My above comment came at the end of my statement about my own personal "need" to save comments and follow-up discussions/suggestions after recipes are posted as a way of helping myself, and how I do it with my own personal saving. Just my way of learning - or maybe being obsessive; or a bit of both. LOL I'm sure not everyone has that need or desire to save all the commentary. Again though, just commenting on someone mentioning our being able (or unable) to add to existing files at the Files section. )
