There is a checkbox that you can check when you file a recipe there, and that sends a notice to the group. However, I didn't do that because the notices are annoying to most people, and are likely to fill up people's mailboxes. It's easier to just go look for yourself. will not allow you to put a file by the same name as one that's already there, so that should at least slow down duplication... that and the categories.

I definitely agree about 's notices being a pain; not so bad if it's just occasionally, but if its numerous times a day, that's outrageous. They should do like MSN and have a weekly email recapping any changes, like how many new files, photos, etc. Problem would be that it would need to LIST the new ones! Oh well. LOL

By duplication, I was referring more to ME (or anyone) duplicating the saving of recipes, like from email AND from the files without realizing they are the same. So, if I post a recipe, I would just put at the top "In files" if I had uploaded there already; or "Not in Files" if I know I wont have time.

However, you bring up a VERY good point about having recipes by the same name in the Files. That's where the idea I just saw about having a "community" ID & password set up would be pretty handy. There may be several versions of the same dish, and really having them all in one file is pretty handy; you can easilly scan the various versions and decide which looks best, or combine parts of each to make one's own personal favorite. I had to do that in my personal collection. For example, I collected several variations of Brownie Mix recipes, so I put them all in the same file so that when I get around to actually making something I can try different versions to see which is the best or combine them to suit me. A common ID system would allow for that. Also, when someone makes a recipe posted by someone else and wants to add their raving personal seal of approval for all to see, that would be a way to add that. It would be more visible to all to post comments in email, but that means the file "creator" would have to be the one to add the other person's comment. I suppose that could get confusing, but there would just have to be a rule of NOT altering the original recipe. I'm sure noone wants their family heirloom recipes tampered with! LOL

I have seen quite a few times here that after someone posts a recipe, it starts sort of a discussion with others mentioning it being similar to their own, but "here's what I do" or "this is how I make me" - that sort of thing. I like to add all those comments to the end of the original recipe, as possible variations.

I guess that sounds a bit "obsessive", but as I am still learning about vegetarian foods/diet and proper nutrition, I NEED all those tidbits of information and personal commentary. I look at some recipes & I cant in my wildest imagination come up with what it might taste or even look like, so if someone replies to a recipe with "yum, that stuff melts in your mouth" or "yuk, that stuff tastes like shoe polish", it helps me conjure up an image & decide where on my "to make" list it may go.

I'm just so glad the Files are going to be used, I really dont care what system everyone wants to go with! I have saved all the emailed recipes (except what I've lost to the cyber black hole), but they are SO disorganized because I get rushed and throw them all together rather than filing them; so while I am searching for something to make for dinner, my husband gives up and goes for pizza!! Sort of defeats the purpose of my finding healthier, but tasty meals, huh? LOL He thinks I'm just sitting here playing around chatting with friends while he goes hungry. LOL

I'm also glad to see that others in this group are open & even eager to use the files. I know some find navigating to be difficult, as I found when I tried to set up files for my other group, but once you click around and explore a bit, it really is pretty simple. I suspect most everyone will be using them before long.

Thanks again for all your efforts, and for everyone else who has pitched in too.

God Bless,

Vivian
