Guest guest
Thanks for the great breakfast suggestion, PT -- that sounds really good! I don't like to eat eggs often, but my parrots and dogs love them so I always make extra... supplies the birds with Vitamin D, which they miss being indoors, so that's important. > BTW, thanks for adding my sandwich to the files section. You're welcome! I'm trying to make the files an easy place to get ideas -- especially for new vegetarians and bored old ones like me. <G> > You deserve some kudos for taking on the job of organising > things here for us all. I appreciate > your efforts. *coffeemug salute* Thank you! I've been working on them for several days getting recipes and list member's opinions/responses to questions that have been asked -- combing the copious archives of this list ( has a lousy search engine!). I'm trying to file them so folks can easily find them without having to search the archives. I'm hoping it will make things easier for new vegetarians to get ideas, and for bored old vegetarians like me to find ways to spice up our menus. I've sure read a lot of really yummy sounding recipes! Now I'm all stoked up to go shopping and do some cooking. Melinda
Guest guest
>Kate, my friend in NZ raves about marmite. I was wondering how this >is >different from vegemite, and do you like it as well? I have been >enjoying >reading your posts. *smile* thanks *smile* personally am not a marmite fan...it is pretty much the same thing, marmite being traditionally made with beef extract (not sure if it is any longer). the marmite/vegemite difference in like the margarine/butter difference...same type of product, similar flavour, some ppl love one and hate the other and some ppl can't tell the differenc btwn the 2. and while i'm here how does everyone get those arrow thingies..>..next to what thay are replying to?? is it an auto thing that you email does?? i had to put these ones in myself just to make to make the post a bit clearer. anyway hope everyone has a lovely day..kate
Guest guest
Hey, don't forget Promite ... *laugh* >>> marmite being traditionally made with beef extract (not sure if it is any longer). >>> It doesn't appear to be still. Apart from anything else, in New Zealand it is made by Sanitarium, a Seventh Day Adventist owned company. Yeast Sugar Salt Wheatgerm Extract Mineral Salt (508) Color (Caramel) Herbs Spices Vitamins: Niacin, Thiamin, Riboflavin It is, apparently, vegetarian safe:'Marmite is approved by the Vegetarian Society. During the brewing process, some brewers add isinglass (extracted from the swim bladder of some poor Sturgeon) to help clarify their beer. However, the yeast extract is removed before the finings are added, so yes it is vegetarian. 'Other (cheaper) finings are available to brewers, and if the beer is brewed correctly, no clarification agents are needed.' http://www.gty.org/~phil/marmite.htm#section-4 >>> some ppl love one and hate the other and some ppl can't tell the differenc btwn the 2. >>> Personally, I hate both of them - I am a Promite girl, myself. >>> and while i'm here how does everyone get those arrow thingies..>..next to what thay are replying to?? is it an auto thing that you email does?? >>> Mine does it automatically when I reply to a post which is not HTML enabled - which yours is, so I don't get them *laugh*.
