come to the U.S. It just showed up in a local health food supermarket I shop at

not too long ago. Quorn is made with mushrooms, a tad different compared to

other soy/wheat gluten based meat subs. I really love the chicken chunks. I

sautee them & mix them in an " alfredo " sauce for " chicken " alfredo. It goes

really good with lemon-pepper pasta.

Quorn isn't 'made with mushrooms' - the labeling is

deceptive, to induce you to think that. Quorn is a

'mycoprotein' and has no mushrooms in it. It's a

'manufactured food'.

You'll note that their website states:

" Quorn™ foods are made with mycoprotein, from the fungi

family - and a relative of mushrooms, truffles, and morel,

that offers a strong nutritional profile and an authentic

meat-like texture. "

Note the weasel wording. The mycoproteins are from the

fungi family and are a *relative* of mushrooms. A similar

statement would be 'house cats are from the feline family,

and are a relative of tigers'. But a house cat isn't a

tiger! And a 'mycoprotein' isn't a mushroom.

All of which is OK in and of itself - there's no reason I

know of why a mycoprotein can't be a good food - but their

tactics are very shoddy, IMHO.

People shouldn't be led to believe that they are eating

something made from mushrooms when they are not. People

shouldn't be led to believe that they are eating something

'natural' when it's a manufactured food.

Quorn has been used in the UK and other European countries

for quite a while, and I understand it's quite popular

there.
