Guest guest
> What are the financial costs of tofu compared to > beef or chicken. Is tofu more expensive? As far as the cost of tofu goes, I've found it to be fairly expensive when purchased at the grocery store or a specialty natural foods store (although probably not quite as expensive as some cuts of meat. I don't buy meat often, so I don't really know how much it costs). But if you live in proximity to an Asian grocery store, you can find tofu there quite cheap. I buy fresh tofu (which has to be used in a few days, so it's different than what you can get at a typical grocery store) at a cost of $1 for 3 bricks (which is about a pound of tofu before it's pressed). I usually buy $2 worth, and this gives my family enough for several meals. Hard to beat that price. By the way, if you want to try a great tofu dish that's also quite easy to make, try " Sweet and Sour Tofu " from the book " Diet for a Small Planet. " If your family don't like the tofu, they can always fish out the pineapple chunks and eat them. You might be able to find the book at your library. Good luck!
