> What are the financial costs of tofu compared to

As far as the cost of tofu goes, I've found it to be fairly expensive when

purchased at the grocery store or a specialty natural foods store (although

probably not quite as expensive as some cuts of meat. I don't buy meat

often, so I don't really know how much it costs). But if you live in

proximity to an Asian grocery store, you can find tofu there quite cheap. I

buy fresh tofu (which has to be used in a few days, so it's different than

what you can get at a typical grocery store) at a cost of $1 for 3 bricks

(which is about a pound of tofu before it's pressed). I usually buy $2

worth, and this gives my family enough for several meals. Hard to beat that

price.

By the way, if you want to try a great tofu dish that's also quite easy to

make, try " Sweet and Sour Tofu " from the book " Diet for a Small Planet. " If

your family don't like the tofu, they can always fish out the pineapple

chunks and eat them. You might be able to find the book at your library.

Good luck!
