Dave,

(sorry for mistake about you being married :) *blush*

As for slow metabolism, there is a very healthy way to speed it up -

light weight training! As Joyce Vedral mentions in her workout books,

regular weight training can increase your metabolims by as much as 15%.

I noticed I can (*knocks wood*) eat quite a bit more, and still maintain a

healthy weight, after working out with Joyce's videos 4X a week (15 - 30 minutes

each time, on average - depending upon which workout I'm using) - - - PLUS,

for the first 6 months, I only used 1, 2, and 3 pound dumbbell sets, and still

lost two full dress sizes! (I never wore such a small size before at this

weight!)

Now, I upped my weights to 2, 3, and 5 pound dumbbells - - - this coincided

with the lowering of my thyroid med, and had very little effect on how many

calories I can eat.(even though my metabolism had to have gone down considerably

after the level was lowered...)

So..I know it is true - - - her workouts, even using very light weights, do

increase the metabolism (plus, build muscle, bone density, strength, etc. :)

Incidentally, Joyce was taught AND BACKED by Joe Wieder (Arnold S.'s

idol/mentor) and his wife, Betty Wieder (editor of SHAPE magazine)

Add to this the fact that Joyce creates workouts for anyone of any age!

Plus, she can have quite a good sense of humor, and I still smile at her

occasional comments on her video workouts. hehehe

Can't get much better than that! :)

vegsource.com has my Fitness Guru, Joyce Vedral, as their fitness expert!

Her own web site is www.joycevedral.com

She answers her e-mail personally, by the way, and loves to help us in our

weight training following her very safe and easy workouts. She has a book just

for men, called " Top Shape " - it has the same workout two different ways in it

- one way, with free weights and weight bench - second way, with gym

equipment (for when you may go to a club or be traveling, and use a fitness room

elsewhere).

However, men can follow any of her workout books - probably, you will raise

the weights a lot sooner than most women would is all...

If you are interested, try surfing around Joyce's web site and then e-mail

her for her suggestion as to which workout you may want to use. She has them in

book form (available at most chain bookstores for about $15 each), or video

form -

I asked her if she would consider video taping the men's workout, as my

husband would like to follow it visually...perhaps, she will do this in the

future.

:)

Hope this info will help you and others here!

Love,

Cherie
