Guest guest
Dave, I'm glad you seem okay, even with a lot of soy - yet, some people (according to Mary Shomon) can get away with reasonable amounts of foods that are no-no's to lots of folks who are hypothyroid... I really recommend reading Mary Shomon's book, " Living Well with Hypothyroid " , to anyone who has a slow thyroid. The information in this book is really invaluable. Even if you and your wife think you know all you need to know about this condition, you are likely to find a lot of things that are helpful that you never did know before... If you don't wish to buy it, you could possibly borrow it from your library? As for soy (and, I used to love to eat steamed tofu and spinach almost daily for lunch..) what got to me most was the studies showing overindulgence of soy has permanently slowed down metabolism of some people - - - (I have no idea of what that amount is right now, sorry, as I just avoid it as much as I can...) My husband and I remember reading the report of a doctor who tested this and found she ended up with hypothyroid, which she didn't have previously. It was from a page that was linked at about.com when I put the phrase " soy and thyroid " into the search engine there.......... [i read that about 2 years ago, and I'm really sorry now that I do not have the bookmark or file (thanks to my Compaq Presario - - - this lemon's drive has been reformatted twice in 3 years, plus nurmerous system file problems that were not related to viruses........not to mention the CD drawer and CD drive needed to be replaced - - - ohhh yes! AND, the modem died once...Only good thing is the extended warranty gotten at CompUSA when we purchased this lemon....*smile*)] Love, Cherie
