Guest guest
Please forgive me, but this is completely off the topic. Since this group has a lot of members, and I truly feel this is a worthwhile subject that should reach a lot of people, please allow me to post this plea. We are, after all, vegetarians because we feel it is wrong to eat another sentient and intelligent being, and this is just another way to help the animals....even if these are not animals one eats (at least not in most countries) This is about a cat rescue that has nearly been forced to close because of lack of donations. This rescue is run almost entirely by one selfless woman who, herself, suffers from many health issues, yet she carries on and tries to help all the cats and kittens she can in, and the areas surrounding, her rescue. The rescue is run almost entirely by her husbands income and the few donations of food, supplies, blankets and cash that she gets throughout the year. Jean and her husband have even remortgaged their home and now the money has all but run out. They recently put out a plea by placing an article in their local newspaper about the shelter, and received some donations. Also they received donations through the efforts of her friends spreading the word about, but the rescue is still far from out of the woods financially (the vet bills do not miraculously just go away!) Carrie (of the Catmoms webring) has kindly offered to do a Blogathon for Catkin Cat Rescue to help raise some much needed funds for this wonderful No-kill cat shelter. For those who do not know what a Blogathon, weblogs or the " blogging " community is, for the last three years, bloggers from around the world have been participating in an event called Blogathon. The purpose of the Blogathon is to raise money for charity by having sponsors support a blogger who will blog for 24 hours straight. (Kind of like a walk-a-thon with weblogs!) Last year, Carrie helped a friend with his weblog and raised over $300.00. This year, she wants to help Jean of Catkin Cat Rescue. The Blogathon begins at 6:00 am Pacific on July 26 and will run for 24 hours. You can give a flat donation, or pledge by the hour (so if you pledge .10 an hour and Carrie stays awake and updates for the full 24 hours, that would come to $2.40. Once the blogathon is over, you are on your honor to visit Catkins and make your pledged donation directly to the Catkin Rescue through either PayPal or the secure server on their web site, so you know the money will go straight to Catkins. For more info and to sign up to sponsor Carrie go to http://www.blogathon.org/sponsorsignup.php?p=559 There is also a link on Carries web site at http://www.atlanticrancher.net/journal and there is a donation link for the Blogathon, as well as a link to Catkin Cat Rescue (so you may check out the rescue) on that page. THANKS for helping the CATS!!!!!!!! Sharon
