Guest guest
Like the message says. Part of being a vegatarian is not having any milk or dairy, or anything else from a cow or other mammal. Alot of recipes i seen in this group, have some kind of dairy product in them. Can you seperate the files so that you can easily find completely vegan recipes? That would be greatly appreciated, thank you. I have my own recipes i would like to add, but they might not get noticed with all the recipes with dairy products added. Guest guest
" vegetarian " can mean someone who eats dairy products. " vegan " means no milk, dairy, eggs or anything else that comes from any other ANIMAL. I don't think you would want to limit it to just mammals. That would imply that eating eggs is OK since chickens are birds and not mammals. That being said, I do think it's a good idea to separate the recipes for ease of searching. Personally, I haven't yet given up dairy, but do not eat eggs and many recipes have eggs in them. I don't usually let it bother me, though. There are plenty of ways to substitute for eggs and dairy. That being said anyone who is a vegan who sees a recipe with eggs or dairy or whatever, can easily substitute. Does anyone have a quick guide to substitution? > Like the message says. Guest guest
This list is for sharing our vegan AND lacto-ovo recipes. Pretty much all recipes that are stored in our files that are vegan in content are highlighted as such. Hope this helps. I know when I share a vegan recipe I try to mention it is vegan in the post title like so: [recipe] yada yada ya ~ vegan The lacto-ovo recipes I post I simply share in this manner: [recipe] yada yada ya Just so you know, here we are tolerant of all forms of vegetarianism and even have many members who are not vegetarian as of yet or who are simply interested in learning more. I know some vegans feel lacto-ovo vegetarians are NOT " true " vegetarians. That can still be your opinion. Just know many here are lacto-ovo and DO consider ourselves to be following a vegetarian path. All are welcome here as we learn from eachother and share. ~ PT ~ The great virtue of man lies in his ability to correct his mistakes and continually to make a new man of himself. ~ Wang Yang-ming ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~~~> , " jabba " <watermokasin3> wrote: > Like the message says. Guest guest
Does anyone have a quick guide to substitution? i think when substituting eggs, if you don't want to cough up the money for egg substitute just use baking soda/powder since the main purpose of eggs in recipes is to make things rise. but eggs also thicken stuff so then you may want to use that egg replacer stuff. as for milk, why not soy milk? the only problem i can see is cheese. all the truly vegan cheeses i've had just don't melt very well. toffuti will melt if you microwave it for a long time. I'm starting lose the craving for cheese so I figure might as well leave it out.
