I know it sounds like a lot of work, but with a bread machine to do most of it, it's really quite simple. Then you can control the ingredients, and ensure the quality as well. Bread machines are VERY affordable these days (I got my current one on sale for about $30 at Kohl's about a year ago), and the money you spend on one is quickly made up in cost savings anyway. Obviously, I'm an avid bread baker! I'd be happy to share some hearty, healthy recipes with you, or point you to some good websites and/or lists if you decide to give it a try. BTW, I'm a big fan of Solid Gold dog food too; I've been feeding it to my dog(s) for many years. (Obviously, I don't live in a strict vegetarian house, and while dogs CAN be successfully fed a vegetarian diet, I'm still not sure I feel right imposing that on my canine companion, since I'm not really sure I believe it's " natural " for him to eat that way.) There are some good websites on vegetarianism and pets, if you decide to go that route. -- Sherri A journey of a thousand miles begins with a cash advance. Guest guest
>Have you considered making your own bread? Actually, I have a bread maker (love it), and I'm a pretty good baker. I really ought to start making the time to bake more bread. As for the dog food, my dogs actually seem to prefer the veggie stuff (like Mr. Barky's dog biscuits, for instance) to the meat equivilant. My one dog is very picky, so if she won't eat a food or a treat, I won't feed it. I figure that as long as the dogs like the food, it is nutritionally complete and doesn't cause any allergic reactions, it really doesn't matter whether or not there is meat in it or not. Just my opinion though. SBC DSL - Now only $29.95 per month! http://sbc.
Guest guest
*LOL* sorry! hadn't seen this post when I sent my last. Again, apologies! Sounds good to me - 'nutritionally complete' being the operative phrase, right? I am big supplements and all kinds of nutritional extras as I am for myself - just in case . . . Btw, my vet always gives the dogs that visit there the veggie treats - I bake my own, but as I say I'm a nut for nutritional extras ;=) Best to you all, Pat > > As for the dog food, my dogs actually seem to prefer > the veggie stuff (like Mr. Barky's dog biscuits, for > instance) to the meat equivilant. I asked for a bread machine for my birthday this year. I'm hoping my DH will get me one. I would love it if you posted your tried and true bread recipes. Also the links you were referring to.
