None of this stuff is intended to be absolute. I hope no one sees it that way. We are all at different places in our health and our lives. A week is what feels right to me. After 36 hours, the food cravings go away. Detox is not an issue. I do it 2 - 3 times a year. In the beginning I did it with the knowledge of my doctor. At 57, my health is so excellent that I'm not concerned any more. However, for anyone with any health issues, your doctor needs to be involved for any fast of more than two days.
